Why is it difficult to lose weight in PCOD

If you are suffering from PCOS, the first thing the doctor tells you is to lose weight and improve your lifestyle. But why is it so difficult to lose weight when suffering from PCOS?

Below are the few points that make it so difficult to lose weight for someone with PCOS.

Fat Storage Mode

Insulin is the hormone that transports glucose from the bloodstream to your cells. When you have PCOS, your cells become resistant to Insulin. This often results in more insulin production by the pancreas. Insulin also promotes fat storage. Excess insulin in our body promotes body fat storage and lead to weight gain.

You feel more Hungry

Insulin in our body act as an appetite stimulant hormone. This acts as a loop of constantly eating more due to high insulin and the more we eat, the more insulin is produced.

Therefore, you need to balance your food and know what you are eating. A healthy lifestyle plays a very important role in PCOS. Also, it is very important to reduce your sugar intake to reduce insulin spikes.

Not Eating Good quality carbs

People often chose to eat carbs that are high in Glycemic index and increase our blood sugar level instantly. These contain sugary substances such as juices, cold drinks, chocolates, etc.

One should consume food with a low glycemic index so that insulin levels are stable and would not result in long term health problems.

Therefore one should avoid sugary foods and try to consume good carbs such as

  1. Oatmeal, oat bran, muesli.

  2. Pasta, barley.

  3. Sweet potato, corn, peas, legumes, and lentils.

  4. Most fruits, non-starchy vegetables and carrots.

Slow metabolism

A normal woman would have a much higher metabolism than a woman with PCOS. Therefore, one with PCOS should consume much fewer calories than someone who doesn’t have it. One more thing they should do is to increase the metabolism by increasing their daily activity and start working out to some extent.

Improving your lifestyle by working out and eating good healthy food helps a lot when you are dealing with PCOS. This is the only way it can be cured.
